Woolly Plant Inspiration | Christmas Cactus

Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata)

Sun: Bright indirect light and/or partial shade

Zone: Does best in zones 10 to 12 if kept outside. This plant can be grown very well indoors. Ideal growth occurs between the 70 and 80 degree mark.

Soil: A well-drained potting mix that is specifically made for succulents.  Keep in mind the best soil is an equal parts of peat, sand and a loamy mix.

Water: Keep the soil moist, but avoid the plant sitting in water at time of growing. This plant does enjoy some humidity; 50% or higher is preferred. If you are in an arid (dryer) area, keeping pebbles on the top of the soil and getting them wet will help.

Habitat: A succulent that grows in Brazil. This plant is a hybrid of the two that grow naturally in Brazil. This plant is a good plant for our planters because of its trailing appearance and since vertical gardens are more subject to being dryer, these are perfect!
Tip: When the cactus is done flowering ensure that it gets about 30-45 days of rest. You can do this by letting up on the watering until its new growth begins in the spring time. This is a good gift anytime of the year, because right before Christmas this plant will start to bloom.

Category: Spiller – Should drape down to cover the edges of the Pockets, as a “frame” along the side edges, and mixed into the bottom edge.
