Plant Inspiration: Heliotrope

Mar 06, 2014

Do you like the smell of cherry pie? Well, you are in for a treat. The heliotrope, aka cherry pie plant will arouse your sweet senses. And it might just inspire you to whip up a yummy cherry pie in your kitchen. Heliotropes are perennials that are drought and heat tolerant. They’re perfect for those hot summers, especially in L.A. It blossoms into a cluster of deep purple flowers. They may be fragrant but be careful as they are poisonous to humans and animals if ingested. Other than that, they’re easy to care for. They require at least six hours of sun a day in soil with even moisture. They do great in planters and living wall planters as well. Happy gardening!
