Plant Inspiration : Guppy Plant

Oct 18, 2013

Guppy Plant (Nematanthus gregarious)

Sun: Light Shade or in bright light, but please avoid direct sunlight. If you see the leaves curling, that means it needs more light.

Zone: Zones 10b to 11, if indoors keep plant above 60 degrees F.

Soil: They will require an open planting medium or soil that allows the water to drain and to begin drying.

Water: This plant will require a regular watering schedule. Keeping the soil moist, but not over-watered is ideal. Letting the soil dry out can be dangerous to the Guppy Plant.

Habitat: They are epiphytic in nature (a plant that derives moisture and nutrients from the air and rain; usually grows on another plant but not parasitic on it), so they take some care and not recommended for the beginner gardener or someone with a “non-green” thumb.

Tip: These plants are a rare tropical tender perennial that may be a little hard to grow. With a little extra effort these plants will provide blooms year long. This plant may cause skin irritation or an allergic reaction if handled.

Category: Thriller – Used as focal points and to create a dynamic visual composition.
